Tod A. Kupstas,
started his career in the Intellectual Property
field by working as a Patent Examiner for the United
States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
for close to six years from 1997-2003. In this capacity,
Mr. Kupstas was charged with determining whether
the claims of U.S. patent applications met the requirements
for issuance of a patent. During his tenure with
the USPTO, Mr. Kupstas attended the Patent Academy,
an academy for training U.S. patent examiners in
various areas of patent law. While working at the
USPTO, Mr. Kupstas examined patent applications
in CD and DVD technology fields to determine whether
such applications met the USPTO requirements for
patentability. Mr. Kupstas also examined applications
in the computer network field, dealing with Internet
applications, email systems, and client/server systems.
Mr. Kupstas received various special achievement
awards, outstanding performance rating awards, and
productivity awards while working as a patent examiner
for the USPTO.
Mr. Kupstas has degrees in Physics and Anthropology
from the University of Pennsylvania. He received
his Juris Doctor degree from the top ranked intellectual
property law program of the National Law Center
of the George Washington University, while working
at the USPTO. While at George Washington University,
Mr. Kupstas completed course work in patent law,
patent enforcement, trademark law, unfair competition,
copyright law, entertainment law, licensing of intellectual
property, case law of the Federal Circuit Court
of Appeals, and antitrust law. He is a member of
the Pennsylvania bar and is currently registered
to practice before the USPTO under a provisional
registration number. |
